The Settlement of Eastholm

Eastholm is a walled military settlement on a small rise near the center of a sheltered bowl valley. The valley is surrounded by steep cliffs. There are two narrow notches, one to the east and another back to the west. Each notch is walled off and guarded by a gate tower. Behind the settlement, to the south, lies a large lake fed by three rivers which tumble down from the southern cliff edge. Lake water cascades beneath the walls of the settlement where it flows north to settle on a lush floodplain. Four additional rivers cascade from the cliff walls form a lake with the southern river. Three small farmsteads have been built around this lake. A river drains from the lake to the southeast and leaves the valley below the walls of the eastern tower.

Population: 264 [ 65 non-military residents reside inside the walls. A further 28 folk live on farmsteads to the north east but have barracks housing available in the settlement should need arise. 171 military personal are stationed here and all can be garrisoned within the walled settlement if necessary.]

Location: 56N 39E, It is the northwestern-most entrance into the Eastlands. It lies just southeast of the edge of a receding glacier. It is about as far north as it is possible to safely travel without a great deal of magical support.

Military: 1 Infantry Company of six platoons.

• 1 Company Commander - Khundrung Darkhelm (Deep Dwarf-Knight)
• 5 infantry platoons (30 men each)
• 20 enlisted men in 4 squads of 5 men each
• 4 NCO squad leaders, one for each squad
• 1 NCO Platoon leader
• 1 Lieutenant
• 4 Medic/Casters, one per squad
• 1 support platoon of 20 men in charge of the armory, mess, medical and administractive duties.
• Patrols: Usually, three platoons are within or about the settlement at anytime. Each notch tower is usually manned by a full platoon, with a single squad on gate and the others on guard/wall patrol. At least one platoon is responsible for maintaining a roving patrol of valley area and is responsible for manning the perimeter's signal towers.
